Troomi Screen Time Controls help families build a healthy balance with screen time. From the Troomi Parent Portal, parents can set daily time limits and schedules for apps, calls, and texts that fit around school, activities, and family time. Clear, consistent boundaries help kids learn to manage their own screen time as they grow.
How It Works
Customizable screen time
Parents can set up to three time windows a day with separate settings for weekdays and weekends, and add a daily time limit in minutes. When both are on, the child can use the phone during allowed hours until their minutes run out. Limits and schedules can apply to all apps at once or to individual apps.
Flexible when plans change
Parents can turn on “Override Time Limit For Today” in the Parent Portal to lift app time limits for the rest of the day without changing their saved settings. Limits and schedules can also be adjusted or turned off at any time from the Parent Portal without needing the child’s phone.
Separate rules for calls and texts
Calls and texts each get their own time limit and schedule, separate from apps, allowing parents to pause texting during homework time while school apps stay open. Time spent calling and texting doesn’t count toward the all-apps limit.

How do Troomi Screen Time Controls work?
Parents use the Troomi Parent Portal to set two kinds of controls: time windows, which allow use only during certain hours (up to three a day), and a daily time limit in minutes. Each can be set separately for weekdays and weekends and applied to all apps, individual apps, or calls and texts.
Can I limit specific apps, or only total screen time?
Both. You can set a limit for an individual app, an overall limit for all apps combined, or both. If an app has its own limit and the overall limit is also on, whichever runs out first applies. Calls and texts don’t count toward the overall limit, since they have their own separate limits.
Can I see how much time my child spends on the phone?
Yes. Parents can see how their child uses their phone in the Troomi Parent Portal. Usage dashboards show which apps the child uses most and for how long. Call history and texting activity can be viewed as well, and with the Discover plan, parents can see Smart Browser activity, including time spent browsing and websites visited.
What happens to texts sent to my child when texting is paused?
Texts sent to your child’s Troomi phone during a texting block aren’t lost. They’re held and delivered as soon as the block ends, whether it was set by a texting schedule or a daily time limit. Emergency contacts added in the Parent Portal can still text your child at any time.
Can I give my child extra screen time without changing their settings?
Yes. Turn on “Override Time Limit For Today” in the Parent Portal to lift app time limits for the rest of the day. Your saved limits and schedules stay the same.
Do emergency calls and texts work during screen time limits?
Yes. 911 is always available, and emergency contacts added in the Parent Portal can always be called and texted, even when screen time limits are reached or a scheduled block is in effect.
