Content Filtering: Safer messaging for kids

Two smartphones: the left shows parental control content filters for users, with toggles and sliders; the right displays a blurred, blocked image with an eye icon and slash, representing restricted content.

Troomi Content Filtering helps parents create a safer text messaging experience for kids. Content flagged as inappropriate is blurred or censored before the child sees it, and an alert is sent to the parent to let them know. Filter settings can be tailored to each child’s age and maturity level, giving them the independence to chat with friends freely within the boundaries set by their parents.

How It Works

Two smartphones are shown. The left screen displays a text conversation about math homework. The right screen shows a blurred display with a crossed-out eye icon, suggesting hidden or private content. Both phones have orange backgrounds.
A man and woman smile while looking at a phone together. Beside them is an app screen showing content filters for profanity, suggestive content, violence, and drugs/alcohol, all set to On..

Message and image filtering

Troomi software identifies potentially inappropriate content in incoming text messages, filtering for references to drugs and alcohol, sexual themes, profanity, bullying, and self-harm. Images including GIFs and emojis are checked as well, and will show up blurred on the child's phone. Outgoing messages flagged by the system trigger an alert to the parent.

Custom sensitivity levels

Families can choose between Low, Medium, and High sensitivity settings to adjust how aggressively potentially inappropriate content is identified and flagged by the system. These settings can be changed at any time to ensure the best fit for each child as they grow.

Parent notifications

Alerts are sent to parents when content is flagged so they can understand what their child is encountering and decide when intervention, guidance, or setting changes may be appropriate.
