6 Reasons You Should Switch Your Kid’s Cell Phone to Troomi

Are you happy with your kid’s cell phone? Does it have the functionality you’re looking for, or maybe too much functionality? Are you able to personalize the smartphone and make it work how your child needs?

If you answered no to any of these questions, you should think about switching to Troomi!

While giving your kid their first cell phone can oftentimes be an overwhelming or stressful experience, it doesn’t have to be. And with Troomi, it isn’t! Troomi phones were developed with your little ones in mind. They keep you in contact with your kids, protect them from anxiety-inducing social media, and inspire endless amounts of creativity. I might be biased, but I’m a firm believer that Troomi smartphones are the best option for kids of all ages.

Switching to Troomi is easy, so let’s talk a little bit more about what makes Troomi the best smartphone for kids.

1. Troomi keeps you in contact with your kids

Troomi phones ensure that you are in contact with your kid whenever you need to be. In addition to unlimited calling and texting, Troomi phones offer a Family GPS app that lets you know where your child is at all times. This way, you can send them off on that morning walk to school without a worry! If they do go off the beaten path, you’ll know. They’re always just one call away.

The Troomi Parent Portal is going to be your new best friend. The homepage is especially helpful and gives you all the info you need to stay in contact with your children. It shows you some basic stats from your child’s phone, including their location, screen time usage, and app time. It also shows their battery life, so you know if they’re close to losing power anytime soon.

2. Troomi phones are protected by military-grade security

Technology can be freaky. It seems like there is always a scammer or hacker trying to gain access to your information. With Troomi phones, however, phone scams are a thing of the past!

Troomi phones feature an optional SafeListing™ functionality that protects your child’s phone number from being leaked to hackers and phishers. This means no more spam or unwanted calls from creepy scammers! Instead, your child’s Troomi phone can make and receive calls or text messages only from people on their Contact List. With SafeListing, you never have to worry about who your child is in contact with.

Phishers aren’t only on the other line of a phone call; their fishing line also reaches deep into the internet. If you feel your child is ready for the responsibility of surfing the web, Troomi phones feature a KidSmart™ Safe Browser that protects them from scammers and hackers alike. This web explorer teaches kids how to use the internet responsibly by enabling you to decide which websites can or can’t be visited.

3. Troomi’s KidSmart™ apps encourage kids to explore

Most smartphones for kids have a plethora of addicting apps and games that kids run the risk of getting addicted to—and tech addiction is no joke. Thankfully, this is not the case with Troomi!

Instead, Troomi phones have KidSmart™ apps. This carefully curated collection of games and applications empowers kids to learn more about the world around them and inspires endless amounts of creativity. And more cool apps are being added all the time!

One of my favorite KidSmart™ apps is AllTrails. This cool app is like an encyclopedia of hiking trails. It collects information about every hiking trail in your area and gives it a difficulty rating. It also tells you how long each hike takes on average, so you and your kids know how to plan your day. To top it off, other hikers can post reviews and pictures of trails to help you see what you’re getting into! Check it out next time you go hiking with your kiddos (and then read these six simple hiking tips).

I’m also a big art nerd, so Sketchbook is another KidSmart™ app that I love. The Sketchbook app is your child’s digital sketchbook—it’s all in the title. Featuring a variety of digital art tools and brushes, Sketchbook helps nurture even the smallest artist’s creative talents, even if those talents are currently a bunch of scribbles. Even Matisse and Monet had to start somewhere! Sketchbook is easy to use, totally portable, and free for all users.

4. No need for anxiety-inducing social media

If you’re the parent of a teen, you probably know how devastating social media can be. Cyberbullying, predators, and influencers portraying a false reality are all prevalent on social media, and its use can cause so much loneliness and anxiety in teens.

To combat this modern mental health epidemic, Troomi phones eliminate social media entirely. Instead, Troomi helps your child connect with friends and family in the real world, away from the idealized lens of technology. It’s easy to stay in contact through classic phone calls and group messaging, all while avoiding social media.

Of course, social media isn’t all bad. It’s a great way to stay connected with family and friends, and can ignite sparks of creativity. If you are one of the brave souls who chooses to give your older kids social media, make sure you teach them how to navigate it healthily.

5. Troomi phones grow with your child!

Unlike other smartphones for kids that have hard restrictions and no wiggle-room, Troomi phones grow with your child. This means there is no need to replace hardware as your child gets older.

When your child gets their first phone, they likely won’t need any apps or internet access. Texting and calling is enough. In fact, too many options on the phone will likely overwhelm them! As they mature and gain a greater sense of responsibility, however, you might decide that your kid is ready for a little more functionality. Troomi’s Parent Portal makes it easy to add or take away features as your child grows, including texting, KidSmart™ apps, and internet access.

Troomi phones also give parents the ability to create a flexible smartphone schedule for their kids. In addition to setting screen time limits, you can choose when your kids are able to access certain apps. For example, if you don’t want your teen texting late into the night, you can turn off texting after 10pm on weekdays. Just as you can add functionality as your child grows, you can similarly edit their schedule. How cool is that?!

6. Bringing your kid’s current phone number to Troomi is seamless

If you’re the parent of teens or older kids, chances are they already have a phone number that family and friends use pretty regularly. Switching to a new carrier with a new phone number can be a headache—that’s why Troomi makes it easy to bring an existing number with you to Troomi.

The process is easy! As you’re completing the check-out process on the Troomi shop website, you’ll get asked if you would like to use an existing number. Just hit “yes.”

Once you click that “yes” button, a little form will pop up. Fill in a little information about your existing account, and Troomi’s team will contact your old carrier and convert the new phone. Simple as that!

Do note that while the port-out process typically takes between 5 minutes and 24 hours, it can take several days if there are issues with the existing carrier. If there are issues with your port out process, make sure you have the correct phone number, address, account number, and port out/transfer PIN when contacting Troomi support.
