Create Great Family Memories with 5 Fall Outdoor Activities

Author:

A family of four is joyfully embracing in a leafy yard on an autumn day, as they create great family memories. The parents crouch down to hug their two young children, against a backdrop of a house with a sloping roof and surrounding trees filled with vibrant fall foliage.

If you’ve been putting off making memories this fall, this is your sign to make it happen! Take the time this year to prioritize getting outside with your kids. Trust me, you’ll all be healthier, happier, and more connected. Making a fall bucket list is a fun way to make sure you get everything in before winter hits. But if you don’t have time for that, here’s 5 simple ways you can get outside with your family this fall.

Hiking

Fall is the perfect time to get outside for a hike. Hiking is a great activity for everyone to get off their phones and enjoy beautiful scenery. Want to completely unplug from technology for a bit? Troomi’s smartphone for kids has settings to block app usage during certain times, so your kids can be totally present during your time together. Here’s another tip: do the same thing to your phone! This will help the kids know that you’re totally present and you’re all unplugging together. Just don’t forget to snap at least one photo of your family together to preserve all the memories!

Corn Maze

There’s nothing like a classic corn maze to get you in the mood for fall. Corn mazes are a great problem solving activity for kids and adults, plus it’s great exercise. Getting outside in the cool air can be refreshing and energizing for your kids. Want to add a little friendly competition to your corn maze experience? Split your family into teams and see who can finish fastest! Winners get to pick a fun fall dessert at the end.

Picnic

Changing up your routine for a fall picnic is just what your family needs. Plan a picnic to enjoy a beautiful fall day in a park in your area. If you have access to it, kick it up a notch with a bonfire picnic up the canyon! Grab your hotdogs, roasting sticks and s’mores supplies for an incredible picnic under the stars. You can find a few more bonfire recipes here if hot dogs aren’t quite your speed. Be sure to bring your jackets, blankets, camp chairs, and guitar for an unforgettable fall evening.

Pick Apples or Pumpkins

Looking for a relaxing day on the farm? Fresh Apples straight from the tree may be the most quintessential fall thing ever, followed closely by visiting a pumpkin patch. Nothing tastes better than a crisp apple, and nothing is more insta-worthy than a family picture in a pumpkin patch. If you can find a farm that has both, you’ve found yourself the perfect fall day outside. After you’ve had your outdoor fun, you can spend the evening making this incredible apple pie and carving pumpkins for your porch with your spoils from the farm. Could there be a more perfect fall day? I honestly don’t think so.

Leaf Scavenger Hunt

Looking for a fall activity that’s just around your neighborhood? There are a lot of options, but one of my favorites is a leaf scavenger hunt. Make a list of trees that are local to your area, and see if you can identify them in your neighborhood. If that’s a little above your level of tree-knowledge, get outside and see how many different colors and shapes of leaves you can find. This is a great way for kids to learn more about trees and how the seasons affect leaves.

Fall is the perfect time to get outside and make memories with your family. This season goes fast, so be sure to take advantage of the beautiful leaves and cool weather while you can. You won’t regret it! Promise.
