What is Content Filtering and Troodi? Existing Features Help You

Because you use Troomi, you already control your children’s inbound and outbound calls and texts by moderating their Contact List. You also control which websites they browse and the apps they can use. You can even decide when each child can talk, text, browse, and use apps with our easy-to-use scheduler.

Content Filtering and Troodi

As children grow, the risks involved with mobile phone use increase, which is why Troomi’s Content Filtering Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Notification feature can provide transparency and notify you when your kids receive or send content that is not aligned with your family’s values, the child’s maturity level, or your overall comfort. Content Filtering can recognize language, images, emojis, GIFs, and videos that you indicate are inappropriate for your child. The feature can also blur the content and/or notify you that it was sent or received.

We also recognize that at certain times and under carefully supervised conditions, it may also help your child to interact with generative tools that can answer questions, offer advice, or provide direction. Troomi’s emotional support feature Troodi responds to queries from your child and provides thoughtful responses and direction, all within carefully curated boundaries that reflect the Troomi mission to protect children and give parents transparency. Of course, Troodi also aligns with our Content Filtering mission to notify parents of problematic or dangerous communication coming from your child. All of Troodi’s conversations with your child are available to the registered guarding of the child.

When you and your child use Troomi services, you trust us with your information. We understand that this is a serious responsibility, and we strive to protect you and your child’s information and privacy. The Troomi Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy (found via a hyperlink on the footer of our website) provide even more insight into how we carefully handle and protect your kid’s information. At no time do we share their personal information with any third parties, which can result in spamming, phishing, and unwanted advertising.

How Does Content Filtering and Troodi Work?

Content cannot be shared with your child unless the person sending or receiving content is on the child’s content list.

Once you grant permission to activate Content Filtering, you will be asked to select the type of content you want shared between your child and people on their Contact List.

After setup is complete, Troomi’s Content Filtering technology will analyze the inbound and outbound content from your child’s phone, looking for items that are not aligned with the child’s Content Filtering Settings. Texts, images, emojis, videos, and GIFS are scored by a trusted AI ‘engine’ and then assigned a content rating score. After grading, we dispose of the materials used to perform the analysis.

In your User Settings, you may select a variety of options ranging from blurring content to and from your child and receiving an alert when texts contain words, phrases, images, emojis, videos, or GIFs that are outside the content parameters you set for your child.

Troodi features allow a child to interact with a generative, artificial guide who can provide direction and answers to questions in a way that is meant to be safe and supportive. Answers from Troodi are continually fine-tuned to encourage answers that support the Troomi mission to protect children. When your child’s questions exhibit concerning language or mood Troomi notifies you and you have full access to all of Troodi’s question/answer pairs. Troodi will not be available for group texts.

Our mission to protect your data extends to Troodi and while inputs from your child are used to generate appropriate responses, Troomi does Not allow third parties to store or share such information. Troomi uses inputs and outputs generated by Troodi to refine and train these technologies to better serve our customers and Troomi retains ownership of all inputs and outputs from any generative provided to our customers.

Content Filtering and Troodi Has Limitations

Content Filtering and Troodi are not perfect, but they are cutting-edge, and with your help, they will improve. It is significantly better than not knowing what your tweens and teens are texting and sharing. On occasion, our AI may flag something incorrectly; these are known as false positives and false negatives. A false positive happens when the AI thinks something is inappropriate when it is not. A false negative happens if the AI misses something that you feel is inappropriate and doesn’t flag it. If this happens, in certain cases you can coach the AI by checking a box that confirms the content is ok, or with one click, let the AI know the content was inappropriate for your child’s age and maturity. Furthermore, answers provided by Troodi are not diagnoses of any kind, may not always be accurate or helpful, may not align with a parent’s values, and there may also be false negatives/positives.

Our data shows that when a parent moderates a child’s Contact List, shared content is most often within the bounds the parents expect. With Content Filtering and Troodi, a parent can have more transparency and peace of mind knowing Troomi’s AI is actively looking for content outside your content settings.

Good Information Can Increase Safety

Content Filtering and Troodi elevate the information at your fingertips, enabling parents to act quickly. When inappropriate or concerning content or interactions are flagged, a parent has the opportunity to assess the situation, the content, and the contact who sent it. If a contact repeatedly sends inappropriate content, they can easily be taken off the child’s Contact List. Content that Troomi grades as being “adult” in nature will be immediately blocked and deleted from our system. Additionally, if a parent spots troubling questions or interactions reported by Troodi, quicker intervention is possible.

With outbound content, your child may attempt to share content, including texts, images, videos, audio, and GIFs that don’t meet your Content Filtering criteria. When this happens, Troomi will do its best to blur and/or strike the text before it goes to the recipient according to your setting criteria. You can choose to be notified when this happens. Troomi’s AI is revolutionary, but as with any new technology, it may not catch everything, and you should not rely on Content Filtering or Troodi to be error-free. But as this product matures, it will become more accurate.

For Legal Reasons

Our mission is to make your child’s digital life with their phone a little safer. We also want to make sure we let you know about how we balance risk between Troomi and our customers. With that in mind, by using the Content Filtering or Troodi features, you understand and agree that Content Filtering is not one hundred percent accurate and will create some false positives and false negatives and and/or Troodi may give answers that are not in alignment with a parents personal beliefs, and might give answers that are not accurate. Troomi provides Content Filtering and Troodi features on an “as is” and “as available” basis without any warranties or guarantees of any kind, and by using Content Filtering or Troodi you agree Troomi has no responsibility or liability of any kind for your use of these tools. You agree Content Filtering and/or Troodi may not be suitable in situations where reliable data transmission or security is unavailable, and Content Filtering and Troodi may not be interoperable with your hardware or software.

(Check Box) I agree to let to the terms found in this document and to allow Troomi to monitor, grade, and process texts, generative interactions, images, videos, emojis, and GIFS sent and received by my child, as described above, by the Troomi Content Filtering and Troodi documentation, and as further detailed in the Troomi Privacy Policy and Troomi Terms of Service.
